Genius Loci

A Singular History…

Set apart from the bustle without ever feeling remote, this estate belongs to the distinctive art of living of western France: temperate climate, maritime proximity, and a cultural landscape both rich and discreet. The residence was built during the Third Republic, yet in an architectural language deliberately rooted in an earlier era, an homage to French Mannerist lines, softened by the refinement of the 19th century. It is said that the mayor himself commissioned its construction, as a way of affirming not only culture and standing, but also the Republican ideals of elevation through knowledge.

…And an Elegant Architecture

The château rises like a 17th-century-inspired pleasure pavilion, balanced, noble, and free of ostentation, foreshadowing the compact plan. Its façade, articulated by two projecting lateral bays, is distinguished by a ceremonial staircase, stone quoins, and pedimented dormer windows that converse gracefully with the mansard roof. The terrace extends the architecture outward. It calls for potted citrus trees, summer breakfasts, and evenings by lantern light. The park, meanwhile, forms a verdant Belle Époque setting, ordered without rigidity, where cedars, chestnuts, and oaks respond to one another beneath a softly filtered light.

A distinctive Art of Living

The Art Within

The interior fulfils the promise of the façade. Oak and poplar parquet floors, marble fireplaces, sculpted cornices, generous ceiling roses, panelled doors, and timber dado rails, each detail expresses a measured elegance, free from excess and without austerity.

The ground floor is arranged around a central vestibule and an arcaded gallery. On either side, two mirrored salons form a harmonious enfilade. Beyond, the gallery leads to a library, a fitted kitchen, service rooms, as well as the staircase ascending to the upper floors and another descending to the basement level.

The two upper floors each accommodate four bright bedrooms, most retaining their original fireplaces. Four spacious and well-appointed bathrooms and shower rooms complement this airy layout. Each level breathes with a generous and natural rhythm.

Finally, a full, dry and accessible basement houses a wine cellar, boiler room, workshop, and several additional ancillary spaces, practical yet discreet, serving the comfort and quiet order of the reception floors above.

The Art of Gardens

A landscaped park conceived in the tradition of the great 19th-century country retreats. Between shadow and light, the pathways trace calm intervals, punctuated by remarkable century-old trees: cedars of Lebanon, a blue cedar, chestnuts, plane trees and ancient oaks. A noble and measured vegetal composition, where each species seems placed with the intention of enduring.

Visual openings, discreet clearings and subtly framed horizons create a slow, contemplative promenade in constant dialogue with the architecture. Here, the château finds its setting, perfectly oriented along a south-east / north-west axis, bathed in light throughout the day.

A few carefully chosen elements punctuate the landscape: an old well, a summer terrace, a light belvedere, a treehouse, and a 20th-century garage, discreetly integrated.

The park, entirely enclosed by walls, opens only through a single, understated gate, a threshold between the world and the intimate.

L&T’s insight

Built in the second half of the 19th century by a notable local family, this château bears witness to a singular moment, when the hygienist movement met the final expressions of Classicism. Faithful to its original design, it has undergone no abrupt transformations. That is its rarity: the ability to move through time without rupture.

This property expresses both sobriety and quiet sovereignty. Behind its classically toned and carefully measured façades, it does not seek to impress, but rather to invite one to put down roots. A family home since its inception, the château welcomes as much as it gives, with balance and warmth.

Here, everything is possible: family life, a creative retreat, a discreet guest residence, or the refuge of a builder wishing to unite heritage and vision.

This château stands as an authentic place to live, where nobility, a gentle art of living, and tranquil architecture come together.
